This Saturday is The Hunger Sucks, Food Rocks Walk/Ride

On Saturday, September 23rd at 10:00 am, the CUCC’s Outreach Committee will be sponsoring the annual walk/bike ride to benefit the Loudon Food Pantry. Again, this will be in place of the annual CROP Walk and will ensure that Loudon Food Pantry receives 100% of the donations.  The 5k walk/ride will start in front of the Canterbury Church and end at the Parish House where there will be refreshments served by the Canterbury Benevolent Society. Children under the age of 10 need to be accompanied by an adult.

Please contact LeAnne Fifield 934-2075 or Sonette van der Merwe 540-9325 for forms to walk/ride.  Click here to find a walker/rider to sponsor not listed here or to make a donation.

Self Shopping is a Success!

Normally when a person goes to a food pantry, they are shown a list of available foods and asked to check off their preferences.  Then the list is taken and bags or boxes of filled.  It’s worked for a long time, so why change it.  Right?  The problem is that people would get the food they or their family didn’t like and wouldn’t eat.  They would give the food away or worse, leave it on their shelf until it went out of date and needed to be thrown away.

Earlier this year, we instituted self-shopping.  Using their shopping list that tells them what their limits are, our people come in to shop the shelves themselves.  This allows them to pick what they like and the brands they like.

By using this process, we also found that people have time to think about what they have at home and only take what they need instead of getting what they don’t want.

In retrospect, this was a good change for everyone concerned.  It also gives us time to restock the shelves while people are shopping.  Also, to make shopping more comfortable for people with children, we created a kids playroom.  Our people were so happy with the idea, about 95% of the items in the playroom were donated by the people that come in to get food.  Win Win all around!

A picture is worth a thousand words…

As you can see, our stock is very low.  The Gift of Lights does not usually start until after Thanksgiving (we consider ourselves fortunate that we receive the food donations from that event).  We still have to make it up until then and through Thanksgiving.  Please donate food today so that we can continue to feed those in need!

Please bring donations to Loudon Food Pantry, 30 Chichester Rd., Unit D, Loudon NH.  Our office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 10 AM – 1 PM and 3 PM – 6 PM and Wednesdays 10 AM – 1 PM.
