More about food donations…

Below are some things to keep in mind when donating food items.

Outdated food. We check all food when it comes in and discard any outdated food. When manufacturers determine what date to put on food, they assume that it is stored in poor conditions. When we receive a donation, it is often impossible to determine how the food was stored. It is for this reason that we must defer to what the manufacturer recommends, or risk making people sick.

Open containers or used food. These items are unsafe and will be immediately discarded. Donors do not receive any credit for outdated, opened, or used food. If an entire donation consists of these items, no donation letter will be issued.

Do not leave food outside our door. During the winter months, food will freeze and make it useless. During the summer months, food can become overheated and that will make it useless. You will not receive a donation credit if you leave food outside our door.

Never put any type of food in trash bags. Trash bags contain insecticides that help to keep the bugs from entering your trash. These donations will not be accepted.
