Turkey Correction

We got word after we released our articles to local papers that we need our turkey number for Thanksgiving before October 14th. By having this number early, it allows us to receive all our whole turkeys free. So, if you reside in Belmont, Canterbury, Chichester or Loudon NH and think you qualify for our food pantry, please call Sue at 724-9731 to get on the Thanksgiving Box list. If it goes to voicemail, just leave a message.

Our Goal

During normal times, our goal to give out enough food so that every person can create at least nine meals per week. But these are not normal times. Our goal has now shifted to giving out enough food and try to supply the basic needs items so that a trip to the store is not needed. About 33% of our people are elderly (some with no relatives to assist them) and this percentage does not include those in different age groups that have major health concerns.

Because of the increase in people needing food. We are now having people pick from an extensive pick list, we process the order and bring their groceries out to their vehicles. No one enters our building. We are wearing masks and gloves to protect all parties concerned.

We are still receiving donations and quarantining them for one week before processing. Just knock on our door and we will come out to get them. Our current needs list is in the right-hand column of our website.

New Program Eligibility Guidelines

When a person goes to a food pantry seeking assistance, there are guidelines most food pantries follow. The income level guidelines have just changed which will allow us to help more people.

For example…before if you were a household size of one and you brought in $445 per week you qualified. Now if you are a household size of one and bring in $589 per week you qualify to receive food.

To see if you or your household qualify click here. After looking at the “Need Help?” page and you don’t qualify but feel your circumstances warrant further evaluation, please call Sue at 724-9731. We understand situations differ in these trying times and just want to help!

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Older people and people with chronic diseases (heart disease, diabetes, lung disease, etc.) are at higher risk to contract COVID-19 (CDC.gov).  This is 35% of the people that come to our pantry for help!   The other 65% will also be affected by lost income and food price rises resulting from stockpiling and supply chain interruptions

We ask our patrons to stay home if they are showing cold symptoms or have come into contact with anyone showing symptoms or anyone exposed to the virus.  If you need to miss your appointment for this reason, please call Sue at 724-9731.  It would be bad enough for one of patrons to be infected but worse if our staff and volunteers get infected and we had to close the pantry for 14 days or more.

What is the food pantry doing?

New procedures are being put into place to help minimize any spread of COVID-19.  We will be putting all new food and household donations in quarantine for three days before processing.  All non-washable items (coloring books, crayons, etc.) will be removed from the kids’ room and all pantry surfaces will be disinfected frequently.  Our goal is to stay open and keep people in need fed!  How we do that for some people that are quarantined may need to change.

What can you do to help?

Right now, cash contributions — rather than donating cans or dried goods — can more efficiently shore up food stocks and allow us to purchase the most needed food and supplies.
